Question about internet

Sorry firstly because im about 70% sure this is in wrong section but wasnt sure where to post,

Im curious to wether you can get an 'internet reciever' to get free internet as you can with a cable reciever for channels.#

Someone i know claims to have an cable modem that lets them recieve free internet and im unsure how true this is.
