How do you know that the people were even genuine(i watch too much real hustle). They have no right of entry without a search warrant or court order. Dont let them in next time. They might not be genuine and they may be targeting random houses and trying to confiscate receivers for sale. Its possible and may be a con.
But dont take my word for it.

Read the Rules here; they apply to Everyone.

With that package they've got a cheek to imply wrong doing at your address.I'd take it further and demand an apology/explanation of the said persons actions.
This in effect should keep them away for good, also throw in an allegation of harrassment due to the fact they said they would return over the coming months.
Checkout the RED stickies massive amount of info and effort been put into them.

With that package I would do everything that Donnie says but I would threaten to take my business elsewhere and see what they have to offer to make amends.

ok having had a read through all of this i need to tell u what 1 dick on my street is doing-this is true but disgraceful.

he has gone and broken open his neighbours external box outside his house and because theres not really a partition wall between the semi-detatched houses on my street has been able to connect a splitter and a line of coax to his neighbours box, the idiot then drilled a hole in his own house and has now run the feed into his own house where he has put another 4 way splitter on there and cabled up his own home giving him multi-room

how do i know all this- he was in wetherspoons on friday running his mouth off...and whats even worse hes complaining the signal is a bit weak.

its true - generally im no grass man- hell whatever you do in your house is your business. But this is just too much.

it makes it bad for a few of us others in the street who subscribe to virgin for the broadband/phoneline and have our dreamboxes going

i kinda think it makes it worse seeing as this tosser is getting his cable feed from a really elderly retired couple living next door to him and they havent a clue whats going on.

i was thinking of going round to see them and explaining what hes up to with their cable connection.

personally i was thinkin how the hell you connect an LNB to a cable box DVB-C - it sounds mad to me- its not exactly a sat box is it where u put your LNB on a dish- so what has it got to do with noise

forget telling the lederly couple! tell the police!
i'm no grass myself either, but people who steal from the elderly are the worst type of scum.
man, back in the day, this bloke would of been mobbed!

the noise is rubbish, You could search the net for days and wouldnt find an answer. the vm network is fibre optic. this is flexible glass sending a signal of LIGHT!!! flippin noise my arse. anyway even if it was a copper wire you are recieving a signal not sending.

Well to some degree the noise is rubbish, but what VM are concerned about is protecting their network.
If we all went and purchased illegal equipment and run our own cables around the house and also went and stole the neighbours drop cable llike has been described then this would bring the network to it's knees.
The level 4's as they are known which are the green cabinets on most of our streets have enough signal in order to supply the amount of taps within that cabinet to the amount of subscriberss in that street.
Now lets say i have installed a couple of my own cables to where i have installed dodgy boxes not using the correct specified equipment to carry out the Installation.
Now i have seen where people have run satellite cable around the house in order to receive channels but this cable is not designed to be installed on a cable network,it's far in-superior to the (RG6 Telewest) (RG59 NTL) cables used and is no way shielded like the one used by the cable companys.
This in turn with people who have got hold of say a 6 way splitter and are using only a couple of the ports causes noise ingress.
Noise does leak into the network causing higher SNR levels which then result in drop outs (pixelation).
Any un-terminated cables cap off with a barrel and a 75 ohm cap.
VM do have the means to find out if you have a box transmitting in your house,it doesn't require a return path.
                              Just be very careful....
                              btw Happy Halloween

Also just to advise further it's only Fibre Optic between the Head End and the Level 3 (Mux) or Modulator, otherwise known as a (Node),where this is then de-modulated after that it's good old analogue cable to you and me with various high frequency digital signals from the level 4 (Cabinet) onwards.
