VM crackdown: no cloned DM500c less than two years old is safe.

Just found this on another forum, maybe its related to the other post..

I have recently found out that Virgin Media have been paying cloners to
install a special device into the clones they ship to the UK. Internally at
VM, its known as the codename Nigriv and has been rolled out to the big
    distributors.

The device is located in between the philips tuner and the main board, thus
removing it would render the box unable to receive a signal from the cable
    network.
Apparently my source within VM said that the operation has been going for
over two years, which is costing VM thousands in supplying the hardware and
paying the cloners to install it.
My source didn't go into detail, but apparently it works a little like
talkback, which is activated when a certain channel appears in the channel
listing. He did go on to say that if you didn't have the channel detection on
in the background, it might be possible to avoid getting the device
    activated.

He also said that this operation was part of the deal brokered with Sly to
get the Sly basic channels back onto VM, because Sly had serious reservations
about the VM network and the security.

He was quite vague on whether they would be able to disable the box remotely,
or if they would be disconnecting houses from the green box. He doubt whether
VM had the time or man power to take even person to court to reclaim losses,
even if they did, he doubts it would happen because of the advertisement of
how badly their network has been infiltrated.
Be careful out there folks, dyor.

    Real men have FTTH.

Sorry but i think thats one of the worst scare monger threads ive ever read.
Do you think the world revolves around the UK??

these clones from china are HUGE business , and in UK youl be lucky if we are 10% of there market.
    boom!
