Kryptview a780 Information

Hi

I am a relative Noobie and just wondered if someone could clarify the situation re Kryptview a780 and the Starview 6 boxes in relation to the Vermin areas that have moved to N3 encryption.

Do either of these boxes work in the same manor as the Eurovox Max V boxes that sadley died when Vermin introduced N3 or do you now need to connect them to your LAN as well as the cable to able them make use of some external servers for provision of content

I have browsed the forums but there seems to be conflicting advice on how these work on a basic Vermin Cable provision ( BB is available if necessary )

Any clarification that you could provide would be extremely welcome as I am sure like some others its a bit confusing.

a780 has to permently connected to internet and cable feed when using box.

So when you say they are connected to the internet is it just a normal LAN connection ? or can a wireless card be sufficient and do you need to subscribe to any servers on the Internet for it to work ?

you just connect it to your router.
alot of members are using homeplugs.
i just bought a ~~~~in big long ethernet cable and ran a wire round my livingroom.
once the box is flashed , it automatically connects to the server all by itself....
no need to do anything and no subscription to pay..... happy days.....

Do the boxes come ready flashed to work with N3 ? ( although I do notice there is plenty of advice on the forum on how to do this )

I would intend connecting to my router via a wireless connection so I am assuming it only needs to connect to the internet for the constant key changes etc so bandwidth shouldnt be too much of an issue

the boxes come programmed for fta only, you have to flash them yourself.
it uses very little bandwith....

Once its connected to the Internet is it relient on a single source or server to make its connection etc or is this a single point of failure you just have to accept ?

it relies on a server to decrypt the cable signal..
if the server goes down , the box goes down.....
this is the boxes achillies heel.....
but with no box at present (or likey to be in the forseeable future) able to decrpyt n3,
any box you use on cable will have to rely on an external source....

So I assume you are an advocate of the Kryptview a780 therfore knowing what you now know would you still purchase one tomorrow or would you go with the Starview 6 boxes

Just trying to establish how reliable they currently are

i am using an a780 now...
i am very pleased with it at the moment, but i am more than aware that the server could go down at any moment and leave me with an expensive freeview box
like any of these boxes its a gamble.
you have to decide what you want and what you are prepared to gamble:
to get the vermin package i want, cost ?84.99 per month
i currently pay them ?40-?45 per month for bb, phone and basic tv.
i want all channels, so the box is worth ?40-?45 a month to me....

box cost me ?130 plus ?10 for cables, seriel adaptor etc...
if the box lasts 3 months then it will have made its money back..
i think its worth the gamble...
if box goes down tomorrow , then i loose..... i will have no complaints, i knew the risks...
that's the gamble.....

i have never used a starview, so i cant comment on them

Do you know how long the A780 has actually been functioning OK with N3 and does it do High defination for HD channels ? ( My expectaions are not high with that last question LOL )

im not sure how long its been running for, i know of people who have had one running for over 6 months with no probs.

doesnt support HD

7 months without problems,against problems with sv6 from day 1 and also the combo box.

Do you know what is the latest flash file is for the A780 - is it Kryptview_A780_24082010.bin and can it be used on the device from new ( IE you dont need to flash the box with the previous versions first )
