Can you help me identify my digital box

Hello all, I am not sure what kind of box I have and how I can manually attach to it to carry out the new code updates. I can attach a null modem to a pc and I have used ftp to transfer files over the internet.
Could I also access the box shown in the attached image using the rs232 cable .... any advice or directions would be really appreciated
