Rumor a Virgin engineer told me - IP Logging? - True / False?

Hello,

I was talking to a mate who does Virgin engineering in Sheffield somewere. That is why I got a kryptview cos he got free tv on his eurovoxs. Anyway I was chatting with him on the phone today and he said that Virgin have plans (nothing confirmed) that affect all Virgin Broadband users. to find out the ip addresses of sites that offer illegal boxes, firmware, and codes. After finding these out, they will then add them to there system and log everyone's ip who connects to these blacklists. They will then do random checkups on the properties who make the most regular connections.

I was thinking about this, but isn't this all so illegal? My mate has been a friend of the family for a while and would not lie to us, but the story does seem a bit farfetched.

Wouldn't this also require a lot of man power and equipment?

Should I be concered as I connect daily through my virgin connection. Should I use a proxy from now on?

as for someone taking photo's therefore coming on your property, there is only an implied license under English Common Law for certain people to visit me on my property without express permission; the postman and people asking for directions etc (Armstrong v. Sheppard and Short Ltd [1959] 2 Q.B. per Lord Evershed M.R.).

Cheers for clearing that up!! I find it fascinating the rumours that crop up. Some of them credible and some not so, still, keeps you on your toes though!
I wonder if they'll hire the postman and give him a camera?!

VM do make unsolicited calls using the excuse there is a problem on the cable, we need to check your equipment.

Don't have to let them in though. If I have a problem with my equipment I'll be sure to arrange an engineer visit myself. Although my on demand keeps freezing I can live with it!!!
