New + Would Like Some Advice

Hello all i am new to this cable reciever box busy i.e eurovox , dream etc.
I only know about sammy 2100 and pace really.

All i wanted to ask is that i am after a cable reciever but which one i need is down to your anwswers and advice.

Is there a box that gets all channels meaning premium (pay -per -view) if so what is it or do all of them do this.

Is the box card related like the others i.e pace , sammys or just flashed i have had a quick read and will do more but thought i would ask.

Sorry if i sound a right newbie but never used any other receiver, also off to read more on this forum hope i have not broken any rules with this post i think i have not.

    Thanks

Eurovox, Starview and digivox will all give you all the channels and you don't need such things as box key or ird. Dreambox will also give you all the channels and much more but is much more of challenge to configure and install.

when you say it's much more of a challenge to configure and install what do you mean?

i'm pretty tech savvie and can cope with most things. i'm a ubuntu n00b and can cope with sudo apt-get etc etc etc. How much more complex is it than that.

could you recommend a good thread that will tell us everything we need to know? almost like a eurovox vs starview vs digivox thread.

I have the box super, but am interested in future proofing and seeing what else is around. I use it in conjunction with vista media center, which makes for a top notch setup.

If you can telnet, ftp and know the differences between a null modem cable, crossover cable and a straight through ethernet cable than it is no challenge. Check out the redstickies in the cable dreambox sections as it explains all of the tasks you would need to perform with your dreambox at some stage.

A dreambox is a lot more rewarding once you have it working, it also gives you the chance to learn more while your in the process of doing it.
