Arnet updating, problem with laptop and vist

Hi,
I had a problem updating my arnet box using my laptop with vista. I have the rs 232 cable with usb converter but it wont work. I resorted to using a desktop with xp and it worked first time. Does anyone have the same problem with a laptop and vista or a solution please.

Not sure about vista, but i had a similar problem using laptop, usb converter and xp. I sorted it by messing with com port settings in device manager. Mine would only work when set to com port 1

I got laptop, xp and usb converter.

Have to click on port on the loader and go down to com port 5.

Try that, click on each port till it loads

Thanks for your reply. I did try changing the com port but it didnt recognise com port 1 I had to use 19, 20 or 21 depending which usb port I used. I tried them all but still couldn't get it working. Glad I kept the old desk top, it only has a 20G HD and 128mb ram and its very old and slow but it didnt let me down .
