new to arnet

hi guys found it easy with dreambox but not familiar with arnet using null cable can,t set arnet to 0000 as one of the threads say and can,t cannot com ports get error message com port open what am i doing wrong

If your trying to flash. Start the download before powering up the box.

guys am tryin to falsh my arnet box, its on my mates laptop and keep gettn, cant open serial comport1, please check com port has the following parameters: baurdrate 115200bps, parity no parity, databyte 8bit data, stop bit 1, as a std editor is ther any1 out ther who can help me out

Almost certainly your problem is trying to flash presumably from a sub to serial adapter. very temperamental. if its possible can you get access to a desktop ans use a null modem - it will take 2 minutes.

dont mean to sound really dim, but what i thouht i had a null modem cable. will it no work of a laptop

Does your laptop have a 9 pin connection on it - unusual? If thats the case though and you are using a null modem cable (not usb connected) then it should be fine. Are you choosing the correct com port to match where you have plugged the cable in?

i understand what ur saying now, yes am using a usb cable, and now also realise y u are saying use a desktop, to cut the middle wire out. i am eventually getting use to all this, thankyou.

my arnet box doesnt hav hav channel 0000 only 0032 any ideas y?

dont worry the instructions are not strictly accurate when they say the box has to be 0000 (that is for a "virgin" box being flashed for the first time).

am still trying to download of my laptop, through null modem and usb adapter and gettn cant open com port. i have not had any software to download the adapterwire or null modem cable. that shouldn't be a problem tho should it

my vista finds the driver itself when i plug the usb in i didnt have to get any software

mine doesnt, i got a wire of ebay and it has the disc to go with it, but when u load it up nothin happens, the seller has said he has had problems with every1 he has sold, apparently a cheap make from china, so looks like am screwed

Here's a driver for the maplin null modem to usb adapter, wouldn't hurt to give it a try mate.
