    What is the Arnet A700C?

Hi guys. I'm new here and I'm in England.

On my street today, someone put a receiver called Arnet A700C in front of my house. When I saw it the other day, I picked it up with no idea what it was (I guessed it was a satellite receiver). The box also has a input for two cards but I don't have one.

At home, I tried it out and it turned on and worked but had no channels. Problem is that there was no remote control with it for me to e.g. scan.

I looked on the internet what this is and it said 'cable box'. Well that's straightforward (I thought I could receive Virgin Media's free channels), but the input and output on the back of the A700C are coaxial and the cable socket on my house's wall is a coax socket. I don't have a cable to connect the box to the socket on the wall so were unable to test anything out.

And also, when I looked on the internet, people were talking about firmwares, codes etc. What the hell is this??

Can someone please tell me what this box can do.
-Does it presumably (since it's cable) let me watch Virgin Media's free channels?
-Why's my wall cable socket different to the one on the back of the box?
-What are the two card inputs for?
-What the hell are the firmwares and codes etc. that people talk about on forums?

thats an old cable box now used as a doorstop
latest box is the kryptview a780 that has screw cable connectors f type better and more secure, newer boxes also need a lan connection to work, hence the downfall of pre n3 boxes=no lan.
    welcome aboard m8.

You're correct it is a Cable box, the firmware is software that controls the functions of the box, upgrades are usually improved versions of previous software, perhaps adding more functionality.

The card slots are useless in the UK.

AFAIK the A700C cannot card share, so it will not give you Virgin Media channels for free - I may be wrong on this as I've not looked at the cable scene for over 2 years,

      I've got a A700C in my shed.

BTW, B&Q will sell you an adapter for your cable feed for about 89p.

The A700C was shit for most of it's life but just as the A780C was released the A700C was given a massive firmware upgrade, it worked practically as well as the A780C after that and turned it into a viable box to own.

Shame N3 ended all that though.
