ok so i have just purchsed the KRYPTVIEW Evolution A780 is ther any other euipment i should consider getting?

No as long as you have an internet connection and router your good to go,unless you want to go for home plugs or a wifi bridge but in my book you cant beat it hard wired................

is the box flashed/updated firmware?

NO the box i think is being delivered FTA only but who knows. I am sure the sellers know what is going on and maybe already done.

If not flashed you'll need a null cable and preferably a pc running xp

I can get the cable from Maplins. I am running Windows 7 64.

vmware?? Best set up on a older type pc with a serial port and running on xp

windows 7 and 8 work hopefully you have a serial port/rs232,and maplins will sell the wrong cable to you,tell them its a null modem cable as it has a cross over wire for flashing.
