Help with A750 set up

hi guys have set my box up kv works great sold to me dad he pluged it in an it found all the channles only let him watch fta same area only other thing is he pluged it right in to the modem not a rooter would that make a diff also he has 1 splitter going to modem and vm box any help would be good just comes up scrammbled

While the box is on a scrambled channel like ss1 power the modem off leave for 20 seconds and power back on.
