dollar bills an electronics item released with a common fault is classed as not fit for purpose in the real world..
i would have to disagree there.
i take it you have not owned an older xbox 360 or a playstation 3...
the xbox 360s 1 in 3 of the first year would fail..
playstation 3 lost count of the amount of these we have repaired over the years with same (common problem)..
blackberry phone with faulty charging port or should i say missing charging port because its fallen out..
same goes for sony ericsson xperia charging port issue..
the list goes on.
some of these major companys blame customer abuse.
all im trying to say is the 850 isnt the only electronics product thats been sold with issues.
and considering it only seems to be software issues that can and proberbly will be corrected soon.
unlike some of the major international companys i have stated above.
all im saying is the 850 hasnt been released with these issues on purpose and im sure they will be corrected in the near futureComment

You may disagree and yes had problems with Xbox etc. But under the sale of goods act 1979 (as ammended) if you buy an item electronic or otherwise and it does not do what it was sold to do, it is not fit for the purpose that it was sold.
In all cases you can return it to the supplier and get your money back. I am assuming for this case that the item is a problem from new and not the result of an update of software etc.
The sale of goods act is a very good read if you have ten minutes spare. I had 3 Dell Tv's that were just under 3 years old all had a problem from new, Dell replaced repaired them over the three years. In the end I got sick of it and pursued under sale of goods act, took a bit effort and trading standards but I got 3 brand new Toshiba tv's for my effort.
However I appreciate that occasionally electronic items get released and a problem is found "usually" the manafacturer "puts right" the problem very quickly.
How would you feelinf you bought a new car and every three miles it stopped, but it's ok because it's just a problem with the software and it will be fixed eventually. my guess is you would not accept that.
So why would you accept it on a cheap electronic item?
BUT .....
The kryptview people appear to do a great job at fixing problems and all due credit to them.
The main concern I had is that the box itself was a problem, I have had experience of kryptview for a while prior to purchasing the 850 and know about signal strength, firmware etc etc and knew how to check all this.
What needs to be appreciated is that some people are new to this and if they just bought a box and are riddled with problems they have a right to be concerned, annoyed. I notice certain people are quick to say, "subscribe" these are people who do not have a problem or do not appreciate the problem some were or are having.
Big thanks to forum members who take time to reply with helpful comments and suggestions, always appreciated.Comment

yes your correct to and do have a point with regards to the sale of goods act.
i have been repairing televisions for over 20 years and do have experience dealing with the sale of goods act and yes in many cases after writing letters many phone call etc etc you can get you item replaced if proven the item is not fit for purpose..
what im trying to say is theres still a lot of electronics items been sold where the manufactures will not come forward and admit that their product is not fit for purpose.
i have seen many lcd screens fail after 14months certain models of samsung lcd tvs failing to start up within the same timeframe yet these companys seem to be getting away with it..and the same model samsung lcd tv is failing with the same cause although repairable you will no see these companys coming forward and admiting to these same common problems..
i no this is going off topic just stating a point..
my advice to anyone with a 850 would be to give it a month or 2 and see what happens you may find all you need to do is a simple s/w update to get your box working stable again...
as you pay a one off fee for the 850 rather then a monthly or yearly fee your not really been shortchanged it just means you may have to wait a month or 2 to maybe start enjoying your box..Comment

The reason company's get away with it is because people do not know there rights, believe that anything out of warranty is done for. Warranty is in addition to statutory rights. You are entitled to expect a certain quality and length of service from an item. Peeps do not realise this and therefore companys can bluff their way out of it.yes your correct to and do have a point with regards to the sale of goods act.

Now take Aldi, excellent customer service and 3 year no quibble warranty. All stores should be like this, but I digress.
I do agree that peeps need to give boxes time to get bugs sorted.
But you saying you only paid a one off cost is of no consolation to those having problems!
I just spent ?1200 on a tv, it was a one off payment. If I start getting problems and I see the man at the shop and he tells me. "you only paid ?1200 give it a month or two and see if it sorts itself out" he is going to get a slap! :0)
The thing we have to remember here, is peeps were not complaining about a bit of minor glitching, or the odd scrambled channel. Or a bit of breaking up. Something we have all lived with and expected.
In my case the damn box made watching anything impossible, today it seems to be ok except the sound which scrambles at least twice an hour and I can't flick a channel I have to reboot, now this is most annoying at the crucial point of lovejoy
My advice to anyone buying an 850 is try and find someone in your area who has one, see how stable it is. If its OK invest in one, if not hold on a month or two and see if bugs get sorted. For those that have one grit your teeth and hope it gets sorted soon so the Mrs can stop saying
"I told you not to buy it"
"I told you it was a waste of money"
"I could have have bought a new pair of shoes"
"I can't tell the difference between sport in hd"
Delete as appropriate.. :0)Comment

when i refer to a one off payment im refering to people using sat boxes..
theres folk paying ?100 plus for 1 years viewing and getting a few days then nothing folk taking money and running thats getting short changed
im not talking glitching here im talking nothing blank screen..
its ok for the 02 network to go down for days or the three network to get no signal in a lot of areasl after taking out a contract is that acceptable it would appear so..
you mentioned you had a 780 how many months have you had that
for or possibly years..
times the months by about ?70 per month and i bet you come up with more then the ?150 or so you paid for it...
you can not really compare it to buying a new tv were you have legal rights.
im sure when you bought this you no you have no legal rights.
its like going into a betting shop backing a horse the horse loses and you tell them you have changed your mind and want your money back.
its the gamble you takeComment

sorry dollarbill1964 just read your post from before it does state you had a 780 for nearly 2 years.
so if we said you had it 20 months and say you paid say ?150 for it
is that not about ?7.50 per month.
or less then ?2 per week
i can now see why your frustrated and feel you have been shortchanged
i would say your well ahead even by adding the other ?240
come on sale of goods act.. fit for purpose etc etc
should this not be in the joke sectionComment

Certainly had my money's worth out of the 780 :0)
Took a bit of a gamble on the 850 was going to wait a while longer but wife said I could not have one!!!
I have no doubts it will all sort itself out in the coming months, although I keep asking myself if it's worth having, I am sick of watching repeats. All those channels and nothing worth watching. Uncle Buck is Uncle Buck in HD or not.
I have watched only fools and horses so many times I think I was in it!!!!
Where in any post did I say I felt short changed? NONELast edited by Dollarbill1964; 21 January, 2013, 23:41.Comment

I have complete sympathy for anyone who has paid 200 odd quid for a box that is completely unusable, no matter the legalities of what you have paid for.
However, everyone should know by now what problems these boxes have and I certainly knew when I bought my a850 back in November I was taking a big risk buying such a new and relatively untested box. You just have to look at the whole cable box scene at the minute to see the pitfalls.
What folk need to remember is that setting up one of these boxes isn't quite as straightforward as setting up the old pre nag 3 boxes that we were all spoiled with. If you think about it, even when vermin come to install a new box they often have to make all sorts of adjustments to get it working. Unless you have the correct equipment you are never going to know if it is a signal problem with the a850, or if it's a genuinely duff box, which would be very unlucky but of course is not out of the question.
If it were me I would wait at least until the next firmware release as I'm sure it will resolve most of the issues folk have been having with signal strength.
What I have learnt over the past few months is that the vast majority of glitching problems are caused by signal strength at the end users side. Your just have to look at the amount of people that have reported success with an attenuator to see this is true. The thing is not everyones signal is the same and the difficult bit is working out what you need to do to get it to a suitable level for your box.Comment

It is my opinion that those that are having unwatchable experience on the a850 have a weak signal. My thought process behind this is this. I acquired 3 boxes 2 of which went into a two story dwelling and required antennuator to fix 95% of glitching however the 3rd box went to a chap on the 11 floor of a block of flats and I have tried push fit and screw fit antennuators and fly leads all to no avail so it is my conclusion that he must need a yellow brick type booster to boost his signal as its so weak from bottom floor up. Does anyone concur or is my theory about to be blown out of the water.Comment

Think you and wellinever are on the right lines, I have no idea how the vermin signal works but I do believe even the vermin boxes work on a very narrow signal band and a weak signal is as bad as a powerful signal. It is my opinion that those that are having unwatchable experience on the a850 have a weak signal. I guess the unknown is what the optimal signal for an 850 is, I tried -10 forward attuenator and -20 as I believe my signal is too high. Or it was for vermin hd box.
Also I have no idea how stable the signal is, maybe vermin boxes tolerate fluctuations better. The 780 works with no attuenator and is pretty stable, interestingly enough this one is attached to cable that has a number of splitters.
One thing I did experience, getting higher broadband speed improved the 780 coincidence? Maybe.Last edited by Dollarbill1964; 21 January, 2013, 23:44.Comment
