a780 signal and setup help.

hi all

im going to be purchasing a a780 in the next day or so, but i have a few questions about my current setup and how its going to affect signal strength and such.

im going to be using the cable that comes from outside split into 2, one to the modem the other to the a780, currently the cable going to the modem has a 6db forward path attenuator fitted.

will i see significant signal loss and is there anything in the way of attenuators that i should buy to get the best signal?

any help would be massively appreciated.

m8 you need to read the tuts before you set the box up first you will need to flash your box if s/w isn't installed good luck

cheers for the reply, i am aware of the need to flash the box first and as it happens its going to be pre loaded with the s/w. just wanted a bit of info and help on signal when it comes to using a splitter.

box can only be sold as a free to air,and you need a good signal.

i mean for legal reasons it can only be sold as fta,and you flash it with firmware to update it to 11112012

The best thing to do is just use a splitter with your current set up & see how it goes.

There are wide variations in the signal levels that are provided to different houses, but most equipment should be able to cope.

A problem may arise if you are already on a low signal level. By splitting the signal it will be more than halved going to each piece of equipment, so could fall below it's working threshold. But the chances are that it should be OK.

If you do have problems with your modem after using the splitter, try removing the attenuator.
