    Kryptview A850hd vs A780 box

Hi i have both the A850hd and the A780 Kryptview boxes iv tested both the boxes on my main cable line without any splitter connection and iv noticed that the A780 dose not freeze or jump as much as the A850hd box , dose anyone know why that is and is there anything i can do to improve the quality of picture im getting from the A850hd box to stop or reduce the freezing and jumping.

Im thinking of just selling the A850hd and buying another A750 box as i think the A750 box is a much better box.

Ive read all manner of reasons for the differing performance including...

The A780 and A850 tuners are different. The A850 tuner seems to be more sensitive and where the a780 can cope with a wider range of signal strengths without problems the a850 cannot. An attenuator on the a850 works for some (it did for me for a while).

The servers for the sd and hd channels are different and the new firmware for the a850 has changed the server address again. Has this caused the recent problems? Of course the firmware for the two boxes is different so that's another variable.

Areas are moving to 256 QAM which causes more problems for the HD channels than the SD ones.

I've also read its a simple driver issue with the a850 tuner which could easily be fixed with a firmware update.

There are many more possibilities and I have no idea if any of them are even close to the truth.

on the 850 your hd channels will be ok but you will have glitching on the sd channels this is caused by signal to strong so you need to fit a 2o db varable attenuator and adjust on a glitching sd channel to get a balance between maintaining your hd channels and stoping the glitching on sd ,I thought everyone knew this ?

they should if they read all the posts, other issues now are the super hub and talk talk hub-you need a router fitted.

so really the price of a kv HD box is probably closer to the ?300 price tag then if u add price of a variable attenuator and a possible new router to? bummer!!!

i no this is an oldish thread but as regards to comparing the 780 to the 850hd box it seems an officail modification has been released for the phoenix hd a850.
after doing this mod myself on a number of boxes i have noticed they no longer need and attenuator or booster.
its not really for me to say how or what this mod is but what i can say is it really does seem to improve the boxes performance.
i will be the first to admit that in the past the 780 has been performing better then the hd 850 but as i have stated after this mod has been done there doesnt seem to be a difference.
i no its early days yet but im sure other members will confirm this mod does exists and really does seem to work.
so it does look like anyone buying a new phoenix box in the near future will not require the use of an attenuator or booster etc.

i think we all know there is not going to be a free fix from the KV guys it is down to your supplier to provide or implement the fix whether they choose to charge or not is there own discretion. as to an official release unlikely either as they will be promoting a box and a fix to correct an issue which by the box was never apparently intended not to mention prompting the safety implications of working with electronics when there is real danger of electrocution and potential to blow the board and box itself.

I will however confirm the above fix does equate to a modification of the PSU board and corrects issue effectively having done a large number myself all have been 100% effective and no need for attenuators or booster once replaced.

maybe there was a point in posting the info about the box modification as i would not like to hear of a death of someone not up on electronics and getting an electric shock.

i thought thats what a forum was to help people out

yep totally agree if its not rocket science why not produce pics of mod and diagrams, seems like a closed shop ppl touting for business, very shody practise but hey ho that's my tupence worth.
