scrambled or no video showing after 1 day.....

    Hi all,
I have already apologised in advance for stupid questions that I will be asking on the introduction forum so here goes !
Box delivered and fitted Sunday (a guy off e bay did this and he has excellent feedback on there) and was fine until yesterday when on SOME channels "scrambled or no video showing" pops up every now and again.
Having read through some of the posts on here it appears that the problem may be that we are NOT getting a score of 80 (getting between 72 and 77) on the signal , getting over 90 on the quality. If this was the case though why aren't ALL of the channels experiencing the same problem as the signal score is obviously the same on them all?
Would it be worth contacting VM and telling them that my internet keeps going down and trying to get them to try improve the signal? I know Alex123 has mentioned upgrading with VM to get a better signal quality but can you just do that on the internet package and I am not sure how that would make the signal stronger , or am I missing something ?
And by the way although I appear to be thick after posting this I am not thick enough to leave "anything" lying around if they do actually visit!

different channels are on different transponders different transponders have different frequencys so no it wont be the same signal s and q on all the channels
both signal s and q will toggle up and down.
are you having trouble with fta channels also
what alex means is if you only pay for bb from your provider your signal that feeds you house maybe lower as you are only paying for bb and you have already split the signal so its degraded a bit.
if you payed for a basic tv and bb package your provider would up your signal so its suitable for both bb and tv what you need to remember is in your provider thinks you only have bb.
you need to check if the fta channels are stable first

        Hello mate,
        Thanks for the quick response
FTA channels are fine , this is how stupid I am , I had to google what an fta channel was! . We have got the large virgin package , tv , telephone and internet. I have got a 5mtr cat 6 utp connection from source to the box so I am sure the cable is fine, its brand new.
Just trying to eliminate things it could be .....

i thought cat 5 and 6 are different are they not,not used cat 6. how good is your coaxial cable as if the signal is dropping and you rescan to get them back.

Cat 6 is just an updated version of cat 5 , well so I am told by sales at the place I work ! Lol . We sell the stuff but I am on the accounts side so I bow to their superior knowledge .
Tried rescanning , I have a feeling this box is going to be very hit and miss . In fairness very little I do ends up being as simple as it seems but hey ho . . . . . .

                taffydav is correct.
if you have just bought it i would give it 3 weeks to a month to make any sort of judgement i dont think you have a faulty box and your set up is maybe correct you may just have bought it at the wrong time when people are experiencing a few issues but hey ho thats the nature of the beast

Cheers mate. Funnily enough I had NO issues at all last night with it. I am going to get a splitter I think so I can easily convert to the old box when I get a problem. Reading some threads on here though the splitters can cause some problems ,,,, correct ?
I appreciate everyones replies by the way :-)

Every time you add a splitter tap you decrease the signal level to all devices on your line (regardless of whether the device is upstream or downstream of the splitter). The actual level decrease can vary but is usually 3dB or greater per tap. If your signal level is already low then an unamplified tap will cause problems

Thanks TheCoder , would 77 be classed as a low signal ?

Unfortunately a stb's way of measuring is too simplistic to give a definitive answer other than to say its borderline. Some boxes may work at that level, others wont. It depends on the individual box but also on unmeasured parameters like line noise.
