not really i wouldnt think this is on purpose or some sort of sales plot but maybe an idea to buy a 850 and dont forget your 780 is still worth something to someone in another area

if I really thought that id sell the 780 and go the sat route, something is amiss with so called kv team, must be, the team as we all have known over the years would have had this prob sorted yonks ago, especially now that it seems to be spreading outwards, I bet its a simple fix somewhere.

Yes I would hope theres a chance. I cant believe that the box can not be fixed one way or the other.
If its got channels list...itll work. Im certain. Mine didnt go off last week. I deleted channels trying a factory reset.
The box can see qam 256 in its settings so this tells me its still capable.
Im going to another vmin house a few miles away and will try it there.
That may be more helpful in diagnosis.

Its maybe my box is one of a batch thats developed a prob on the tuner but I doubt it as it would be other areas.
As you said I could really use some 850 info.
Got some virmin contacts so will seek advice too.
Am I right in thinking the tps are supplied from the firmware as you can do a scan with no cable and it find 8?
Need to trawl some vermin forums and see exactly when this area was changed. I know recently a powerscan which I always ledt on was finding sky ashes (ss2) during the summer up until last month I was seeing weekly changes to channel names and the hd ones kept coming back after I was deleting them.
There has got to be a way

back in the sv1 days you could upload a channel dump to pc and name the file say stafford dump you then could download the file as a channel file [ need to change setting on the downloader ] hook up the null modem cable to pc and see if you can upload channels to pc,as i dont have a box i cannot check.
then you dont need to do a box to box transfer,need to check with mods about posting channel dump files?

In the stb editor

Click on green dowload button
Si
Receive
Click on open
Create a name (channel list)
Hit save
select correct com port

Now on your box (this is from my memory)
Instalation
Password 0000
Data
Channel Data
Send

Now hit Start on the STB editor.
