    Box packed in - Help

Turned my Kryptview box on, on the LED panel on the front the figure 0 appeared

so I waited a short while, then turned the machine off, then back on

from the mains power point at the back of the machine

now I've got nothing at all on the LED panel

any ideas, whats gone wrong, whats involved in getting it fixed & how much will it cost

    Thanks

unplug box remove top cover and look at capicitors for leaking or bulging, also check ribbon cables are secure, local tv shop could solder in caps unless you are very good as caps have a + and - side

Right I've taken the box apart, I have 1 capacitor which appears to be rusty on the top and another appears to have leaked cream coloured fluid (not sure about this)

Do you think it's 1 or 2 capacitors ?? Have packed in

By the way I have photos but don't know if I can upload them here

The creamy colored substance is intentional and is silicone or polyurethane insulating adhesive to prevent micro-phonics or fatigue on solder joints under vibration. The bulging caps are due to under-rated temp and high ESR from low cost aluminum electrolytic caps.

Your problem is the bulging cap you have highlighted with a "rusty" color. Replace with an equal or higher voltage cap and preferably same capacitance (amount of uF's).

Obviously even when disconnected from it's main power source a cap still maintains a high charge. So it must be discharged with care upon de-soldering, if you do not think you can do it yourself safely please have a qualified technician do so.

Easy fix and material cost is only a few pence.

Thanks for the swift response, only problem now is trying to find somewhere to fix it
I've tried a very well known local Sat supplier shop (didn't really know about it ??) also tried a TV repair shop again was unsure about it, told me to bring it in and they look at it

              so frustrating

Thanks again to you & cactikid

Show them the pics and this thread and they will know what to fix. As said it's an easy job for them and looks like a cap they will have off the shelf.
