A850 HD 232 Serial Flash Tool
For A850 HD Boxes Stuck on "ON"
You Will Need A Serial Null Modem RS232 Cable.
On the Loader App Select The Com Port.
Press Browse And Select The A850C_FW_V1.01.06.img File Thats Included.
Power Off your A850 Then Press Send On The Loader Then Turn The A850 Back On.

Done all that the box flashes ,then reboots to the same situation
IMO the flash chip is not holding the new image
And the box is In need of repair
I may stand corrected on this .......Paul

you can see the firmware loading and box reboots when done?
your not using a usb/null modem cable ?
rs232 port to rs232 by original null modem cable.

silly question but have you hooked upto tv and does it do anything after that?

Box is not at this location now
232 to 232 direct loads firmware on pc screen and in box led
Then reboots to on ,Tried half a dozen times
Box was a second hand one ,so the problem may lie there
But will give it another shot ,if a solution is found

Off topic i have another cable box here when flashed it runs great but once powered down
It looses the image and back to square one
Thinking this may be doing the same ..........Paul

when you say powered down as in off at rear or off with remote?
there was someone on flebay doing repairs on the 850.

they do lots of box fixes maybe contact them if getting nowhere.

Hi there, wondering if anyone else has any other ideas on how to repair this. The reason I ask is that I have just bought a box with this problem from Ebay. Having studied this thread its the exact same box, as the seller has the same name and is from the same city as the original poster to this thread. Unfortunately for me, his Ebay ad suggested that he had not tried to repair it himself, so I purchased thinking that all I needed to do was to flash the box with the image and I would be good to go. The box hasnt arrived yet, but having seen this post I have a sinking feeling that I may have wasted my money . Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Just an update on this. I contacted the repairer that Cactikid recommended doing on 18/05/14 to get his opinion, he was really helpful, and guess what, he tells me that "if its the box from Liverpool, its been in my workshop, and cant be fixed because its a problem with the main processor". I then contacted the guy who sold me the box "Phil from Liverpool". He reckons that that he has not tried to have it fixed, and isnt Phil14 from Liverpool who started this thread. Apparently its an amazing coincidence that two guys from Liverpool with the same name, have both had an A850 that has developed the same fault, and fit neatly with the time line of this thread and subsequent selling of a faulty A850 on Ebay! Some might say I only have myself to blame , as I should have looked into all this before purchasing. Anyhow, box hasn't arrived as yet and delivery will be refused, Paypal dispute and chargeback with credit card company raised. I wont be making the same mistake again.
