kryptview a780 good picture downstairs near router modem but all glitchy upstairs ..

Hi all, my friend has 2 kryptview A780 box,s ..1 down stairs next to his modem - router and one upstairs .. the one downstairs shows a glitch free picture tho the one upstairs is all glitchy, mainly on the discovery channels, the movie channels seem good and clear ..he brought the one from upstairs and tried it downstairs and all was good, glitch free so its not the box he thinks its because its far away from the router, both box,s are connected via ethernet cables the one upstairs obviously has a longer ethernet cable so that it can reach, he thinks its losing signal because it has to travel so far, he has seen a .. 30db cable tv CATV/Broadband/ modem signal booster/Amplifier ..for virgin media ...ebay item 331040734434 can someone tell me if this is what he needs or can someone reccommened a good fair priced alternative item to help, thankyou kindly ..

lan is the internet cable, homeplugs are used in buildings to send lan/internet through your electric cabling.super hub should work ok with the 780.

I would imagine that it's more likely to be the coax signal cable that's causing the problem, rather than the ethernet cable.

Have you looked at the signal strength & quality of the channels that are glitching upstairs & compared them to the downstairs box?

Is he using a proper splitter to split the signal to the 2 boxes, and using good quality coax cable to the upstairs box?

Hi, I,m using a Konig FC 3 SPLIT - ST - KW 3 WAY SPLITTER ... I bought it from ebay, there are 4 cable ports in it ..1 at the rear of the splitter that says ..IN.. the main cable feed is in that one .. then 3 ports at the front ..all the 3 ports at the front say .. OUT ... DC PASS .. i have 1 cable from the splitter to my modem router .. then the remaining 2 ports i have 1 cable leading to my downstairs box and 1 cable leading to my upstairs box ... i have just changed the 3 way splitter to a 2 way splitter and connected to the upstairs box i was having glitching problems with and it was near perfect, the only problem is i need to use the 3 way splitter so i can connect the downstairs box to ... I,ve forgotton which buttons on the remote to press to view signal strength ? ... I think we,ve now narrowed the problem down tho i do need a 3 way splitter to run both box,s ..any ideas ? thankyou kindly ... The coaxil cable i,m using is good quality and the connecters seem good quality and connected propley tho the cable is rather long, i,ve just measured it and its approx 7 metres longer than it needs to be ..

According to the spec of the Konig 3 way splitter, the insertion loss is 7dB. Coupled with the long cable run to the upstairs box, then it's probably not seeing enough signal.

You can check the signal strength & quality by pressing the info button while on a channel that is breaking up.

A couple of things you can try is to first, shorten the 7m excess cable. Cut off the excess & refit the F type plug.

Secondly, if you have two 2 way splitters, you could connect the feed to the input of 1 of them & connect 1 of the outputs to the upstairs feed. This would then only lose around 3,5dB rather than 7dB. The other output can then be connected to the input of the other 2 way splitter (either through a short F type to F type lead, or a back-to-back F type male adapter). The 2 outputs of the second splitter then go to the downstairs box & modem.

You then have a 3.5dB loss on the upstairs box, while retaining a 7dB loss for the other box & modem.

Does the cable you are using have a name/make/type printed on it?

Thankyou so much Hadron and the other guys who responded to thread, all is working perfect now for my friend, he did not cut the extra 7 metres from the cable ..tho he did remove the 3 way splitter and replace as you advised with 2 -2 way splitters and thats resolved the glitching .... once again thankyou Hadron .. much appreciated ..and kind regards ..

                      Glad it worked.

It might still be borderline though. If the glitching does return, perhaps consider cutting off the excess.

I wonder why he has that 7m excess anyway? Perhaps he bought a standard length of cable with the plugs already fitted?
