a780 not being assigned ip address

    Hi

I've searched through the forum and could find a solution to this problem.

A friend has asked me to look at his box, it was working fine up until the problems with the kryptview server at the beginning of the year.

I have updated with the latest firmware from the downloads section, flashed and scanned as normal, found all the channels however the channels are all scrambled (except the fta channels which are OK).

The link light is on and the and activity light is flashing on the a780 lan socket (and on the network switch), but my router does not list the box in its connected devices.

My box which is working fine on the same setup

Any ideas on how to debug this?

    Thanks

have you a good lan cable connected ,power off at rear modem and box and restart both you should get it to reconnect.

      Thanks for the advice.

I have tried both connecting the box through to a switch which connects to the router and direct to the router, powered off and on in both cases but still no joy (link light is illuminated and activity light is flashing on both the box and switch/router)

Using my box and the same ethernet cable works in both the above configurations

No unusual messages on the tv. Yes I did read somewhere about a Mac address problem. I believe the box is about 8 months old

Not sure as it wasn't connected to a TV when I flashed it. Should I reflash connected to a TV ?

I have just reflashed both my box and the rogue box with 4.2.8. The download tool shows success in both cases and both rebooted after flashing.

My box gets assigned IP address when connected to the network, the faulty one does not. Any other ideas ?

                      Your help is much appreciated.

wonder if lan port has issue as the 780 has this problem but usually blank, you could flash a previous image and see if online update works if so lan port works

15th or 19th would do might confirm if lan is faulty,if so might be worth checking

Thanks cactikid, I've tried that but still no network connection. The link you posted is interesting, is there a known problem with the ethernet socket on these boxes?

The box was purchased from t*ps*t in brum, I have contacted them a few times but yet to receive a response, seems as thought they dont want to know about returns. The box is only about 8 months old.

It does seem as though its a hardware problem.
