A Few questions on current A780 problem...

Has anyone tried an older or historic firmware. There have been a few, is it worth reloading to rule out potential that an older one will work.
Has anyone tried to load the 850f/w onto the 780. Will it upload, is it worth trying.
Is the 780 server still running.
The last firmware update was 20/01/2015....we are only on 9/1/2016...and if I recall last year it was off a couple of weeks so I'm not convinced kv team have abandoned it. Come the end of Jan...it'll look more dodgy if still off but until then, I have my hopes.
I haven't got a pc at mo with serial port as I would be trying above.

The reason I'm asking the question is that the kv team are very "protective" of the 850 fw. As far as I can establish it is requested that it is not made available online along with any loader software for an offline update.
To me that means they probably wouldn't want us 780s jumping on the 850 server cluttering it up if it did indeed work.
I bet my bottom dollar that my phone and pc are also a different processor to the ones you use to view the same thing...this post for example on your hw.
A different processor doesn't mean it won't run. Although probability is it won't.
But I'd like to see hard evidence rather than assumptions as it's all we've got to go on at present.

bit like trying petrol into a diesel engine,the 780 has to use current image to work,not older ones.
firmware for 780 is used with the kv loader to flash boxes.

using non recommended images will brick boxes.

850 image is not to be used on the 780.

I have no knowledge of this, it's just speculation.

I believe that the 780 and 850 use the same cards/cache but access through a different front end and IP or domain and previous changes of KV firmware have done little but change the IP address that the box looks at for the server. Now, the front end hardware could have failed or the IP/Domain could have been intentionally changed or switched off.

If it's hardware failure, then restoration is possible, if they have been intentionally switched off, then it's less likely. In any case, older firmware isn't going to help.

I do suspect the firmwares point to different servers. If...and it's probably unlikely it did install and direct to the 850 server, I can't see a reason what's different from server side apart from path. The 780 hw freezes if you go on a HD channel...which I believe is probably unlocked but the processor can't work at the speed to display the data.
It may also be possible that they have already suspected someone may try this and put some kind of firewall or block their end for hardware info coming through although the data is probably only incoming to boxes and nothing outgoing.
It's an interesting idea either way that may brick it and render it knackered, but it's useless if permanently off so worth a shot
