To buy or not to buy

After Reading through the forums about the potential changes to nag3 and all the ifs and buts etc I suppose the real question is...

Is it even worth while getting a box now?

Personally I'm taking the chance with a dw800 but what's everyone elses view?

well the worse case scenario is it'll be only good for a freeview box when N3 hits and no one's sure exactly when it'll happen but until then enjoy the weeks, months they've got left.

Depends where you stay I suppose is the question. If you happened to live in the test area of Leeds/Yorkshire then personally I wouldnt. I have not seen, if it is available at all, any roll out strategy but vm will certainly have already planned this. If you were one of the last affected areas you may well get your moneys worth.

If you were lucky to get 6 months or more out of your box (it will be very interesting to see what these boxes retail at now i suspect it wont be ?170 or maybe even the ?150 i paid) then you will have had a return. For 6 or 7 channels though for a few months is it worth it?

I would say if you are going to buy a box just buy the sd version at ?80 would be better vfm or you can pick up other boxes cheaper than that.

I have been saying this for about the last 7 years or so you pay your money you take your chance. This time, imho, the writing is defo on the wall. The best hope is ability to use the boxes for cs but that wont happen overnight.

Cannot complain at all the only thing that has surprised me is that it has taken so long. How the Execs have managed to keep their job this long knowing full well the financial cost to their company is bizarre.

I was toying with the idea of sod it im getting a dw800 but have since changed my mind, i'm keeping my money in the bank at the min and concentrating on satellite side of things, until we have a more definate time scale.

It's the card share capability and the unkown time scale of any new encryption that's still luring me. To many unknown factors + the mrs flipped when a told her to cancel the order ( she's bought me a 500gb hdd for it aswell ) so il just take the chance and save myself an early grave. What will be will be.

If anyone in the know can reply to my other thread regarding the rs232 I'd be greatful.

Wise move me thinks Wilf. Already started my transition. Goods all purchased, installer booked. With a good bit of fortune I may actually be a sat enthusiast by the weekend

nice one! hope it goes well mate. i have already purchased mine got the open media few months ago, up and running on cable in an afternoon, not bad for a first timer on an open source box . I have got myself a 90cm dish with motor which i can operate in a fashion but im learning all the time but hopefully got a little time before my area gets the chop from vm so should be much more confident with it by then.

My personal advice would be to buy the A750 you will definitely get your monies worth out of it.

Ignore the above if you live in Leeds .
