Swapping from Sky to V+

Hello everyone,
I'm a new kid with a million queries, that I'll try and cut down to just a few......to start with
When I swap from Sky to Virgin, if I install say Eurovox with a built in Hard Drive, will I need a V+ Hi Def Box to receive HD Programmes, or do I just need the very basic box from Virgin that doesn't have a PVR?
Will I still be able to use "Catch up" and all other features?
What's this pc malarky - is it just to download latest updates?
I'll stop now and post my other queries in instalments!

very soon, in the next few weeks, months maybe. you will need to pay for subscriptions. so you best bet would be to stay with sky

no on demand or catch up either

you need a V+ hd box or a similar hd (like a eurovox HD or HD dreambox) box to view HD

virgin will not be free as it is now ( to eurovoxes starviews dreamboxes ect ) in the near future some areas have already gone

yeh you can record 2 channels while viewing another too unlike sky+ and you also get on demand and catch up too

only problem is eurovox is sub free for the moment V+ box isnt

That's great thanks - Now I just need to decide which Cable Receiver is the best for my purposes.
The smaller the better if there's not much difference between performance.
Any experiences or advice greatly appreciated and thanks for clearing up my earlier queries.

the bigger point is no cable box is going to work on new encryption called nagra3,if you buy one it wont last long,plenty of posts around on nagra 3=no fix 100% blank screens only.

If you want HD remember virgin only transmit 7 channels and sky have 30 plus.

Yeah, but my main reason for going back to Virgin is that I had nothing but problems with my Sky box and the V+ box is less user-hostile in general terms.
I'm tinkering with the idea of simply having Freesat as most of my films are Blu-ray from Lovefilm anyway, but I do like having the instant record PVR facility for general stuff.
