hi everyone, just recieved my a780 and just wondered if i can update it via a usb - rs 232 conveter by using my memory stick, tried the download option which just says failed on the box, have a hd combo already which uses this type of updates...using cable........thks in advance

Put LOADER & FIRMWARE on desktop
Use a USB-rs232 with null-modem cable to flash box & read
instructions;

picked this box up after all the comments on dk, recently set up a sv7 which had a usb and seems to be much easier to update, serial connections seems so old but as i am new to this guess u experts have a good reason for this had to order the usb conversion so still waiting...

The A780 has a LAN/Ethernet port? There is a black sticker covering it, did you see it?

people never read the instructions of starview boxes and they end up bricking them because inserting or removing usb while box is powered on bricks them=return to sender,also the older serial connection will work ok if you have am xp pc with serial port,vista and windows7 things get complicated and also usb adaptors,easier you may say but main point reliable and server??fun times ahead.

hi satsmo, yeh have connected it to the lan, but i am assuming i need to flash with the latest file, the sw update is available in installation but does not load anything and displays a FAIL message on the box, just waiting for the leads to arrive from az, i do have W7 ultimate which seems to complecate matters as per cactikid latest message

If the S/W Update is available in the instalation the software can be updated online. (Your not mixing this up with Data Download are you?).

I have W7 Ultimate and use usb to serial without any problems.

hi DW 190 yeh think i may be if you only have two options to begin with, data & chanel i think, not had a look again just waiting for my usb 2 serial to arrive from az, many thanks really looking forward to having a go at it, hopefully b4 xmas

OK thanks all AZ are running behind with delveries so i managed to borrow a pc with a serial connection, all now updated and running great, thanks to all for your help, have a great xmas
