    Homeplugs

I have just brought the Kryptview A780 and having problems understanding how the homeplug works or which one to buy.

My netgear router is upstairs with my modem and the box will be downstairs in the living room. Do I plug in one into the router or nearby and one downstairs near the box? how does the router know a homeplug is plugged down stairs?

which homeplugs do you recommend? cheap deal. does it have to be the same as the router.

sorry for being a idiot and stupid, first time I setting it up so I worried about a particular homeplug to buy and where from?

Why is the router upstairs and the modem downstairs?

Are you all wireless for other devices?

Ideally your Modem & Router would be close to each other and if you still need homeplugs cheap ones are good enought for the amount of data requiring tranfer.

They should work on the same consumer unit irrespective of ring main.

What I have found is they will work ok with multi adaptors but dont like Surge Protectors.

No my router and modem is upstairs in my room and the kryptview is going downstairs where the tv is, so a homepluf is needed. so do i plug one into a socket near the router and attach the ethernet cable to the plug from the router and the other downstairs where the box is so a ethernet cable to the plug to the box.

thinking of getting this what you think. will it do with my netgear router.

they look the same, apart from they look a bit bulkyer than the ones i use. it also says they work in 90% of homes.

not true... all that seperates one ring from another is a pair of fuses or circut breakers , theoretically, given a good enough signal you could use it over the road at a neighbour's house as long as they were on the same phase-circuit.. x-10 home-controll devices which use the same data-over-live-mains type of thing have to be coded to each other to stop neighbouring systems sharing the same phase, responding to commands from each other. You can put a filter in the line though.

others have posted not on the same circuit/ring and not working,it was the same with me upstairs and downstairs on different circuits,so i joined upstairs and downstairs with 2 homeplugs and lan cable,i can use it anywhere now.

fair-enough mate, i can't argue with what did/didn't work for you, can only put it down to signal strenght v cable run distance on a single-phase house installation (most UK are, you gotta ask for 3-phase especially), unless there is a filter/surge protector somewhere in the circut.

                        You got a 3-phase consumer unit ? 3 live ( Red, Yellow, Blue )

nope standard wiring nothing special and not through extensions or surge protection, except an extra one which is designed for use with homeplugs
