How to go about Lan connection?

At the moment I have an home theatre PC in my front room which is set up to tv and surround so therefore the pc gets the cable feed from the router (upstairs).

What would be the easiest way to connect the Krytpview up? is there som sort of splitter what i could use from the pc to the box? im not to sure about this you see???

If you router is upstairs and your Kryptview down stairs the easiest way is with homeplugs.

      Hi,
seems to me you are saying that you have an internet connected PC next to where you will have your Kryptview???
      can you confirm?
if so then you can get a cheapo LAN switch (4port will do) take the cable out of the PC and connect to the switch. then connect two more network cables to the switch and plug one each to the PC and the Kryptview.
et Voila. (or as i often see "eh wolla" ).

      NB
if buying a switch make sure it can either do auto MDI or has an MDIx switch - otherwise know as an Uplink switch, or has a dedicated UPlink port. This is because the signal coming from your router needs crossing when connecting to your switch (depending on your router this may already be the case in connecting to your PC).

      NB2
Just had a thought, if your Home theatre PC connects to your router wirelessly, then you are ~~~~ed!! - back to the homeplug idea (will still need a switch though).

if you need more help i'm happy to talk directly via PM
      cheers

ok guys thanks for that advice!!!

Bends, my pc connection downstairs is as follows:

In my upstairs boxroom there is the router so I have ran a lan cable from there to the front room where the pc is under the tv. So its not wirelessly connected but I like what you say about that splitter switch kinda thing.

This weekend we have a computer fair on so I will buy one of these.

          PS
Will this splitter slow the internet down if both feeds are operating at once tho?, I mean if the Krytpview and pc are using internet at same time??

              hi toe471.
it's a switch you want - and there should be no effect on your equipments' use of the internet by using them both at the same time. Unless of course you are doing some serious downloading on your PC and you manage to saturate your internet connection. e.g. 8Mb/s or whatever you have - to do this you would need to be hitting newsgroups/torrents pretty hard. normal usage browsing/email will have no effect.
the KV uses hardly any bandwidth - talking packets per minute rather than megabytes per second! but in the scenario above (downloads) as Cactikid says - glitching will occur if you saturate your line. Also note, if you are using torrents your ISP will rate limit (throttle) your connection which again has the potential to cause glitching. although they say they do this only for the torrent traffic - in my experience, as soon as they see torrent traffic they limit your whole link!! so shut down the program when not using it
btw i have a couple of spare switches, i can let you have one for a fiver plus postage if you are interested? PM me for details. any help setting up etc. i or many others can give you on here.

@ maca58 - fully agree about keeping things on the forum - just that in this instance i didnt want to bog a thread down with overly specific/technical details which i feel would have little or no use for others.
              regards
