Hello am new to this, please excuse me for jumping in here. I had the Starview 3 box and all was fine. I have upgraded to the USB Starview 4 and intermittently have the problem of receiving just sound and no picture (resolved only by hard reboot too). I am using exactly the same cable connections as on prior equipment and never had any issues. I also have a Hard Drive (reason for upgrade) and this also has an issue when I set to record it shows a red button in top left with time elapsing but no sound or picture, but when I play it back it has all recorded perfectly. The annoying part is that in say 1 out of 4 times it is set to record, it shows init and freezes for a second then I can watch and record fine. Again sorry to jump in but thought this may substantiate your case and also help me eventually.

does your HD have its own power or are you driaining it from the SV unit?
you lose quality when it doesnt have its own power supply on the HD unit

People having problems with picture loss with SV4 should spend a couple of minutes doing a search of the forum.

Has its own power supply. Cant understand what is wrong, everything is good apart from this internittent problem on HDD. Regarding other issue I have since upgraded to V 1.06 and do not direct the scart via my surround sound first. The loss of picture seems to have stopped on normal viewing, so HOMER 41 I can concur that it is possible worth re investigating your Scart set up, maybe even try a new lead. Extremely sorry to jump in again but it seems a similar problem we are having. If I get any other info I will post it.

Hi There My SV4 does exactly the same, loses picture or sound and freezes when recording to a hard drive that has its own power supply.
I`ve found that re-installing the firmware again usually works for a while then it will play up again after a while with exactly the same probs.

switch off key emulation, go back to channels, then switch key emulation back on, this should fix problem - just avoid the problem channels
