Starview 4 Super usb EPG question...

I'm pretty sure that starview boxes have no talkback feature on them but if anyone can shed some light on this question it would be appreciated. I am currently using f/w 1.06 Beta. When you download the epg using the green button where exactly is it downloading from if there is no "talkback"?
Sometimes a slow gradual approach does more good than a large gesture.

My understanding is this, if I'm wrong please someone correct me:

The cables always have a signal coming through it! (Unless its been switched off). Now when you plug a cable into your box, a couple of things happen before you get a picture coming through!
Virgin has to verify that the reciever is genuine and is subscribed to receive a particular channel! So what it does is it sends information about the receiver to Virgin. Virgin then checks its security details. and if everything is in order it allows the picture to come through, on the other hand it displays that nice screen saying something along the lines of "Scrambled Channel".

This is how official cable boxes work! However non standard cable boxes are different, they have an emulator in them (I dont know exactly how these emulators work) and it has no talkback feature. So in other words, Virgin will never be able to find out who has a non standard cable box from their offices ! On the other hand we can receive FTA programs no bother !
