Presume you have no FTA channels if so, try scanning on another provider from a direct feed from wall socket

Is there a live Virgin Media feed to the premises,do you use VM for the net.?

Too strong a signal can be as bad as a weak signal,a attenuator will reduce the signal.

              Did the box ever work.

What your nearest town or city as you may be scanning on the wrong provider

would a strong signal really stop the box picking up channels on the scan? it just wont pick any up and i dont understand why.

Too strong a signal could give a bad picture, but the scan should be OK.
Given that a scan with the correct provider has been done from a direct feed begining to look like the tuner on the box.

Is there a jumper on the main board to clear the box as the old pace boxes? If so pull it out for a minute of so with the power off then reflash the box and scan using the cable you use for the modem if this fails the tuner is gone

i would try reflashing with another file erase the older one off usb stick so you dont use it again put the new file dated the 12/05/11 on stick and load onto box,let the file download and box reboot before doing anythingtry this also power off at back then on factory reset ,have the cable feed into correct port at back and straight towall socket no splitters.
go through the usual routine of scanning as it should pick up channels with lan removed, insert lan when channels loaded, exit out then power off at rear box modem and router for 30 secs then on go to ssp1 and enter 1819 and wait a min.
