how to tell if ethernet cable connected

At this moment in time I have my own and two friends starview boxes mine is a six and the other two are sevens. I only have one rs 232/ ethernet connector which is brand new just received yesterday with one of the boxes. My box works fine but I cannot get a connection when trying to set up the other 2 how can you tell if the ethernet connection is actually working I am thinking the connector may be faulty jus showing not connected all the time. Sorry to be so long wided just wanted to establish that I can actually set these boxex up normally.

Buy a rooter with few Ethernet connections and share the connections with the three boxes job done.
Tools owned: Hammer, Chisel, Crowbar, Punch, Chainsaw, Cutter and Brain!!!

Did you know People will question all the good things they hear about you but believe all the bad without a second thought.

sorry you miss my meaning the sv 6 has a built in connector whereas the 7 has a plug that sits in the r232 port I am under the impression you cannot buy these plugs and the one that I have may be faulty but since I only have one I can.t check and the warranty on the box in void. I have done the same set up with all 3 boxex but only the 6 will work just wondered if somewhere in the menu you could tell whther the internet connection was live other than connected/not connected

i thought i had lost my 232 plug when i found this site and set it all up again..
i tried the store were i purchased the s v 7,,p c world,,maplins"if they cant get it" i was told by all that it is a none purchasable part..
fortunately mine turned up were i had left it (in the box)..

the idea of a router or a ethernet hub sounds like a good idea..

phone or email skywonder they have cables and dongles.
are the 2 other boxes new sv7 with the new firmware 2.12 and you powered off at rear box modem and router for 30 secs then on got to a channel and enter 1819 should clear.

are you 100% sure you have the latest firmware on boxes that dont connect, and you did a factory reset and rescan also.

Yes used the same usb stick and did exactly the same I am a bit baffled because if I go into network and make all the settings zero then turn off the box and then back on again all the ip addresses etc come on which would tend to suggest the ethernet plug is working

i have seen numerous posts of no connection around the forums old and new wondering if its a server problem as every body say they have powered off all units for 30 secs then on,strange enough when firmware came out first no connection was also there.

Firstly if you have the new firmware on the starview7 do a factory reset then when the scan is finished go to sp1 and press 1819 on remote to enable the net connection. Then turn your starview off as well as your modem and router, then switch the modem on wait 2 mins then switch the router on and wait another 2 mins before switching your starview on.Now go to sp1 and wait 1 min and it should connect, but if not as sometimes it takes a few goes put it on standby then back on and go to sp1 again and wait.it may take a few times but be patiant and it will connect.

plenty of people have a few boxes in a house.

sv6 iconnect switch off and on a number of times to connect
