how to tell if ethernet cable connected

Thanks for the replies people but still no luck. I went to a mates house tonight took the new box with new firmware on he is still using old firmware and getting connected with an sv7 swapped all the wires over used his ethernet connection turned off everything and turned back on my box still would not connect rewired his box which still worked. I have contacted the supplier who state if you put other firmware on the warranty is void so technically the box is sold without warranty cos we only buy them for one reason. Any other ideas appreciated.

Tell me were the Ethernet wire is connected on your box can you see yellow flashing light coming from tiny holes of the box if not I think I have found the problem some people are having not connected, let me know even if you see the yellow light coming mate.

Have tried all techniques but still won;t connect took the new box round to a mates where his starview 7 is still working on old firmware but this one wouldn,t work tends to prove the r232 connector thing is probably ok since I used his. Contacted supplier who stated warranty void cos of third party firmware which means most of boxes out there would be same since we only buy them for one use and they know that

Sorry about the double post. in answer to the last on the sv7 the ethernet wire is connected by a plug into the r232 socket and I cannot see any flashing lights on my sv6 it connects straight into a socket on box and it does flash and this is the one connected so I am interested in your theory

Dumb question how do switch iconnect on and off. Or are u asking switch box on and off at mains?? i have tried this a few times no joy?? and ideas??
