Is Starview 4 "The Box Super" USB PVR any good?

    Hi guys,

Complete newbie at this sort of thing but thinking of getting a Starview 4 "The Box Super" USB PVR?

Can anyone tell me if its any good and if I am likely to get plenty of use out of it before it stops being supported or whatever?

Is it easy for a newbie to use? I understand you can update the firmware (which I can download from here?) from a USB pen and its a simple as that?!?!?

    Cheers guys, Merry Christmas.

Just wondering if its any good? I'm thinking of getting one myself but being a total newb at this, wanted something easy to use.

Can you let me know how you are getting on with it?

Is it easy to update the firmware?

WTF are EMU and Keys.... I assume keys are just codes you get off the forum and type them in.

    Cheers.
Hi morpeus I thought I?d put your PM here as it?s similar to your thread question and others can adjust any inaccuracies.

I actually bought two boxes the other one was a Eurovox 5000 pvr. I played about with the Eurovox 5000 pvr first and I have to admit that it was quite straight forward, it did what it said on the tin and it was running in no time. The Starview 4 "The Box Super" USB PVR was a little more difficult. Not that the process of getting it up and running is any more difficult than any other box in fact it?s a little simpler, but merely the fact that it is relatively a new box and there isn?t an abundance of information on it as there is with other boxes at the moment. Once I found this forum with it?s specialised section, it made it easier.

I?ve only had the firmware (1.06 from the download section) running since yesterday but it seems fine. This being my third box I would quite easily say that the Starview 4 "The Box Super" USB PVR. Has the best and most professional interface and so is easier to use.

Firmware updating is extremely simple. In fact it?s the easiest of the three boxes I?ve dealt with (Replay box PVR, Eurovox 5000 pvr and the Starview 4 "The Box Super" USB PVR) not that there hard. You simply put the firmware on a USB stick. Then insert it into the back of The Box Super" USB PVR, then select the file from the relevant menu and follow the prompts.

EMU at a guess stands for emulator. The official boxes from the cable company have cards inserted into them which help to decrypt encrypted channels. Our boxes have Emulator which emulates this feature thus allowing you to watch encrypted channels without the need for a card. With the emulator enabled you cable box retrieves the keys

Keys are a set of codes used to help your box decrypt encrypted channels. Keys are normally used when your Emulator is not functioning correctly. If the emulator is working then you need not enter any keys.

In regards to recommending it I?ve only had it a couple of days and working for one so my opinion is not really worth much but feel If this box gets good support then I would recommend this whole heartedly.

    Hope that helps

    Jazzy

            Hi,
While recording a programme to the Hard drive have you found that the actual picture and sound that is on the TV starts to freeze and jerk. This happens only while the recording is taking place? Have you found this problem?

How have you partitioned your Maxtor 500GB HD as I have read that FAT32 only supports 32GB partitions?

                    hi,

i have had my sv4 for about 3months and used an external HD with caddy that had its own power supply, however my boxs psu got burn't out and i am blaming the HD as it started to smell a bit burny, at the time i switched both box n HD off then it wouldn't turn back on again so beware!!!
