    using a starview box for standard freeview

    hi guys since they switched off the analogue tv signal up here im without tv in my other room ive got a starview box in the cupboard after what happened with n3 and was wondering if i connect that up would i get any freeview channels?

    You will get about 17 in total i believe mate they scramble most of them.......................

      freeview comes through your aerial , and no you cannot use a starview box for freeview digital channels in that way , but you will get about 17 free to air channels on cable if your vm feed is live

        i can get some free to air channels like 1-5 strangely i cant get itv3 or itv4 but i can get itv3+1 and itv4+1 im assuming that virgin encrypt most of their channels even with a live feed?

          yes they do

          which is why when you asked about freeview , those channels are only freeview on freeview , and sometimes on freesat

          ch5 is scrambled on sly , as are 5usa and 5* and pick tv , so the term freeview only applies to digital terrestrial freeview through your aerial , which is paid for by the tv license , hence my earlier clarification

          you are getting free to air channels , not freeview channels , and so yopu will find that pick tv is also scrambled , as will many more that are free on freeview ( not scrambled )

          if you have had analogue switched off and are in a freeeview area , you need a freeview box , or a freeview tv , and then you can easily watch freeview , happened in my area 18 months ago and we all have freeview tv,s , freeview boxes , freeview recorders etc
