    STARVIEW 3

    hi,
i got two starview 3 boxes a couple of months ago and have been using them without a problem untill the other week when they must off been blocked and have been searching internet for solutions. i have found some telling me to press menu and input 1570and then put neew codes in, but that does not work as when i press menu and press 1570 nothing happens. i also checked firmware wich says it is API version 7.05e.E BOOT VERSION 8.0 DATE 10 APRIL 2008. So i bought the serial cable i need and then checked how to update with not much help, can someone please help me with a fool proof step by step guide to updating if needed or away of putting new codes in. i do not know if this is neccessary but i am with ntl ireland and i am based in dublin.

    than you in advance

Ensure you have the Right firmware for your box (make sure its not a clone box)

Use GTrom to update download here YouSendIt - Send large files - transfer delivery - FTP Replacement

    * You can leave it on default settings usually, (COM1/115200)
    * Click on BIN File and select the new firmware.
    * plug your box into the PC using null modem cable
    * click on Download.
    * Wait till it says completed and your done. goto menu .goto menu. goto auto installion ..select your local cable provider eg ntl, cablewest etc then press auto scan..... wait till it scans.....
you can get the lastest firmware either from links from the downloads section on this site or you can download chatterbox tbc toolbar ..which also has a tutorial on how to flash the boxes ...also have a good look at past threads on this forum ..always a great help.....hope this helps you ..bigfella
ps once you have flashed your box you need to turn on thre emu to access the dollar channels you do this by goin to menu pressin 1 5 7 0 on your remote which opens the secert menu .you then turn on the emu and then the default ,,exit 3 times to s** sports and it shud update wait till it reaches 100 then it shud be ok

think the emu is short for emulater which on standard boxes is where the card goes in and reads the encripted codes ,,,on starview there is no card to process so the emu reads the encripted codes and lets u view the pay per view channels ,,,,, if u go to the menu ....press 1 5 7 0 on the remote ...it opens the secret cas menu from there scroll down and then turn emu on and default ... exitin 3 times to s** sports and it shud update and everything shud b ok ....hope this helps ...bigfella

                  Device manager---Ports (COM & LPT)----Communications Port---Port Settings----Advanced-----Com Port Number change it to Com1 m8.

Everybody starts out the same m8, nobody knows everything about everything, asking questions is the only way to find out information.
I have no problem in sharing my knowledge with anybody who cares to read/listen.

Make sure you point the remote directly at the Starview box, menu===1570===secret menu.

M8 I find your post rather rude if the truth be told,
we are merely trying to help you, a bit more information would be nice also,
and the above settings to get to the com port settings is for XP.
You are failing to tell me you are probably using a usb to rs232 connector ?
You problem will be a driver issue with the usb to serial adaptor.
Pressing menu on the remote, then pressing 1 5 7 0 will take you into the secret menu.
Dont be so rude or you will find no one will help you.
                      Have a nice Xmas now.

if he is using a usb to serial adapter he will also need a null modem cable as well

once the correct drivers are installed in xp for the adapter and its set to com port 1 then he should try using it with a null modem cable as well , connected to the back of the sv3

then try the gtrom loader 8.04 to update the receiver and factory reset after its completed , then its set emu on and default keys in the menu 1570 secret menu

and never bite the hand that feeds you

ok i probably was a bit rude and i an very sorry as it was not my intention but pressing menu and then 1570 does not work no matter how many times or ways i try and yes it is a geniune starview 3 with genuine remote and i also am using a usb to serial adapter with a null modem cable

and i love that quote ' never bite the hand that feeds you'

Download this driver and install it, configure your com port as I stated in a previous post and try and flash your box.
