The only thing I can suggest now is, either you find a notebook/desktop that has a serial interface instead of using the usb to serial interface.
Or find someone you know locally who can help you out m8.

Help with Starview 3 update

Hi,

I was having the same problem as you and tried all methods of attempting to update the box but it just would not update - It kept failing on me. I used an old computer running XP with an rs232 connection built in and even altered the baud rate. Then I got lucky......

I decided that that machine would not program the box even though it was the only thing running on it. Luckily I have some old laptops so I transferred the GTRom file to a floppy and transferred it to a laptop which would do nothing as it has virtually no memory and runs windows95.

I connected the box and pressed start - Hey presto it worked the first time. This was with version 8.02e

If you can get this working you will be fine - If I were you I would not try to update the version 8.04e as the current version works perfectly and you may be causing yourself problems as the other software is not easily available.

I believe the problem with loading is that the baud rate is running too fast for the loader so the older machine just did it because it should downgrade automatically to the most common speed.

garr, seen your other post.
if you cant get into cas menu after installation,1570,... you have not got the latest firmware. forget your usb port . use the serial port at the back of your pc.connect that to your sv3 with your null modem cable, make sure it is the right cable, can be confusing...
you also need to download the latest firmware to your pc. would suggest wizardmods.co.uk for their toolbar, where you can get the latest firmware, 8.02.

access the section and you will find the latest firmware.

if you cant access the CAS menu then it means you have a FTA software installed.

gar was just wonderin how u got on ,,did u get it sorted?

i know this sounds silly and im not tryin to be insulting ..but when ur downloading from comp to box ...is your box on stand by.....only tryin to help...bigfella
