Can you connect Starview 3 to hard drive recorder.

Does a hard drive recorder work connected to a SV3 via scart.
If so can any one recommend a decent hard drive recorder.

the sony 890 is a dvd recorder , its a dvd recorder with a hard drive and connection from the starview to the recorder line 1 input using a scart means it acts like a pvr as well as being able to record or play a dvd , and has analogue and freeview tuners if you have a suitable aerial connection

this would work with almost any satellite or cable box

          Thanks ramjet
The reason I asked about a dvd recorder is that I have just tried connecting one to my SV3 but the DVD recorder would not pick up any channels.

connect the tv out from the starview to the input socket of the dvd recorder , and then select the correct av input using the remote control , which on the sony 890 is line 1 but may be different on your recorder , once you have the correct input selected you will see the same channel you left the starview on , so put it on say itv2 and then select the inputs on the recorder until you see itv2 , at this point you can record the channel the sv is on

so if you then change the sv to sky1 or hallmark etc you can then record it , the same way as you would with a vcr

obviously you cannot tune the channels in on the recorders , thats why you use a scart and select the correct av channel

Everything worked except I could not get any sound. Changed all the scarts in case one was dodgy but still no sound.
The only thing I can think of is a possible faulty scart socket on the sv3.

try using composite cvbs yellow/red/white from the back of the sv to the line input of the recorder

All up and running. I am off nowto look at the sony 890.
Just to let you know I used the video/audio cables from sv3 to dvd player and then run scart from DVD player to TV and all ok.
                  Q. What produces the best picture/sound quality, Scart or video/audio cables ?
                  Cheers

audio is the same on either set of cables , but scart RGB is better picture quality than the cvbs yellow lead which combines the 3 colours whereas RGB is 3 separate colours

if you need more info on this , google it
