Appreciate you taking the time to reply. I'm pondering which is more hassle - building an XP machine just to get access to a serial port or fixing a brick... The box was just collecting dust anyway so I'll probably risk it. I'll update you with the outcome within the next few days. One more thing that's been bothering me - after I follow your procedure, I would naturally want to update to the latest firmware - which would I use, the 7000HD or 9000HD fw? TIA.

Update: I used a USB serial cable connected to a null modem cable - about 20' in length altogether. The update worked and my box now thinks it's a Spiderbox HD9000 - lovely. :-)

I have sv combo running Guinness for irish at the mo but am in L pool do u think I should take this of and put this one on cos it frezzers after 10 mins for about a minute and then comes back on thanks

If your connected to a satellite 5erfer yes
Connect to a cable 1 definately not ......

Ive done this update to spider and never looked back..it works a treat..never had any issues and also updated the box to the latest spider firmware and it works ok!

Hi mate, I used a USB to rs-232 cable to instal the software but nothing happened. The flash tool didn't do anything, just stayed on zero %. I used USB connection from my laptop to rs-232 connection on the box...
