    updating keys manually

    hi there ,
    from Cork,Ireland.
having trouble updating keys manually on the "THE BOX"

have used "big Maq" to update keys info.

    have input keys manually.
RTE 1 is the only channel we can get picture and sound.
no other channel recieved "scrambled or bad channel" on screen.

Can you give me any directions.
Is it sufficent to update keys manually.

any info would be gladly received

You could update the firmware http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...-loader-18314/ or if keys are input correctly, make sure you key emu is on, (menu, press 1570 on remote and check it).

Go to Sly 2 to update.
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer. - Douglas Adams

      Thanks Satsmo for replying.
I am a noobie at all this box stuff.
Got box and was delighted with what i got originally.
Knew they would change the codes eventually.
googled and came up with afterdawn and Digital kaos.
      Afterdawn not interested any more.

      Digital kaos great.
      But a little confusing.
      Have checked forums.
      All presume a little knowledge.

I myself have little knowledge of this subject.

They refer to to updating firmware.Do you have to update firmware everytime they change the keys or is it sufficent to update the keys manually.

      some refer to updating manually.

have accessed "The Box" put in the new codes manually
      with no joy.

I am wandering is it necessary to update the firmware
      and why?

      Why dos'nt manual updating work.
      Am i missing something

      Thanks again
      kevin

          m8 u need to find out which is the lastest firmware for ur box u can do this by readin tho the threads or checkin stickys and downloads section..where u can also get access to the new firmware ,,,,;;; EDIT soz didnt see satsmo s reply;;;;;;;;;;;...1. Plug starview in at the mains;
          2. Plug in null modem cable and join up box with
PC using COM port on PC (there is only one socket for
          this on the starview you cant go wrong);
          3. Open up GTRom loader or whatever sofwtare you have
for loading image on the box.
          4. Click on "BIN File" on GTRom and load the
Auto update BIN File file that you have
(which I assume you have downloaded from here).
          5. Now click download button and you sill se the
          file being downloaded.
          6. Once complete a mssage will apppears saying
          something like "download successful".
7.Ideally you should try and get a bin file channel
list for your area and load this as well it will save a lot of time.
          8. Alterantively, plug box in and press Menu on
remote, installation, choose your cable provider,
then move don to automatic scan and press ok.
          9. Once all channels have been found press exit back to TV screen.
          10. Now press menu, parental control, press ok.press 1570 or
press 2004. Move down to Key Emu and change option
to on. Press ok , then exit back to TV Screen.
          11. Go to scrambled channel and wait on keys updating.
          12 That should be you.
          13. Details how to sort favourites etc is in the manual.
Get a Bin c=image for your area though and this will
save you a bit of work. ,,,,hope this helps bigfella

            Thanks bigfella for replying.

What i am getting at is
            should manual updating be sufficent.

Do I have to flash the box with an update.

What is the purpose of the update.
Does it supply anything other than the new keys.

Do not have a null modem cable.

            easier to update manually.

            thanks again

                Thanks again bigfella.
                OK question answered.
Box can be updated by changing firmware or manually.
Cannot get to store to get null cable due to illness.
Do not have credit card to purchase online.

Can you point me to a manual update tutorial as i must be doing something wrong.
Again thanks for you patience and help.

                  Thanks JOK for replying.
I will try to get someone to do a little shopping for me for the null cable modem.

Just to clarify if i was watching a match and the keys were changed if I had the up todate firmware it would automatically change to the new keys and update without interuption
                  Is this correct.

Have tried Devilfish's instructions to update manually still nothing.
Thanks to devilfish anyway .I will keep trying.

can you not get someone to order a nmc for you, 2.99 from skywonder, post free, 2 days. dont rely on maplins, tho.
may be better from a pc shop. have not seen one in pc world.
