Confused! (Starview wireless & internet speed)

Ok guys I have read around bit spoke to friends but still confused. Recently had an extension and wanting to move stuff like ps3 in there. However connection was really less, called up Virgin asking for advice etc, they said instead of boosting wireless signal..get new line fitted meaning 100 pounds!

Luckily I had line connection in other room downstairs, connection aint the best (3 Bars) however much better then before.

However my starview 7 is upstairs where my router and modem used to be kept for it!! I know there are options like "Homeplugs" and "Wi-fi bridge"?? I have read around still confused and have no idea what to get and how it works?? Also what be best to boost signal around the house? If I should have kept router and modem upstairs and just got booster?

Any advice would be appreciated as I naturally have no channels atm as Modem/Router both downstairs!!

Btw sorry for writing so much tried to shorten as much as possible!

hard wired is best if possible,if you are on the same circuit ring then homeplugs will work,if not you may need a few extra to join the 2 rings to gain a circuit,my house upstairs and downstairs on a different ring,i connected both by another pair of homeplugs connected with lan cable running through pipe work from upstairs/downstairs.

Thanks I finally got a reply! Well I brought a Wi-fi signal booster:

One For All Wifi Wireless Antenna Internet Network Signal Booster Upto 500m on eBay!

If I just stick a wi-fi bridge into my starview 7, everything should be ok right?

That is just an antenna, it may help but I doubt it. You could try a signal booster like this - Edimax Wireless N Range Extender / Access Point : Wireless Range Extenders/Access Points : Maplin Electronics

Thanks again. I will give the antenna a shot, hopefully that increases the signal strengh around the house!

Regarding Starview would a Bridge be ok? I still dont get the Homeplugs system and I dont want more plugs, . This for example: NEW VONETS VAP11G WIFI BRIDGE FOR SKY/ XBOX / PS3 /DREAMBOX...IN UK | eBay

homeplugs run the lan/internet through your electric sockets.

go with the homeplug system easy to setup, ive got the homeplugs and no problems with them, the wifi bridge i had(vonets)kept flashing all night even when the box was off, (thought the boys in blue was raiding me!!) and every now and then had to link it back to the laptop to refind wifi, dont know if i had a bad one or not, but homeplugs better for me

sv box connects with lan cable-homeplug though electric cable other room homeplug-lan cable to router/modem hopefully if on same ring a connection is made.

you can get the 85 model rather than the more expensive 200

Thanks Cactikid, I am just going to get the Vonnets bridge instead though. Lastly this may be stupid one but as the modem and router itself are both downstairs dont I need the cable wire coming out of the modem into the Starview box?
