    Newbie Needs Help

    Hi Guys,

I am fairly new to all this, I currently own Starview 3 and have recently re-flashed it. However i am now interested in getting Starview 4

    1) Is it worth upgrading?

    2) Is it simple as buying the box and flashing it?

    3) Where would be the best place to buy Starview 4?

    Thanks in advance

    Scott

if your happy with the box you have m8 stick to that .as you can see by the threads people have problems with various things right through the starview range ,this also applies to other makes .
if there is nothing wrong with the one you have ,stick with it mate until you have to change it.good luck m8.
if you must upgrade click here

Well to be honest, my friend would like a box... So i've offered him mine and i would then upgrade so i think i will. Thanks for the link.

Is it just a case of buying the box and flashing with latest firmware?

I have had a Starview 4 usb for a couple of months now.
Picture looks great and recording on to my HDD has been no problem.
You flash it by putting the new F/W on to a USB stick and inserting it in the back of the box.
Then use the menu on the box to download the file. easy.
Let me know if you need any more info

Scott there are loads of different boxes. There aint no "right" box it boils down to personal choice.

If you want to err on the side of caution if N3 is here anytime soon you may consider investing in a linux box such as the dreambox. These stand a better chance in theory of overcoming the encryption one way or another.

Personally of the plug and play types the arnet (difficult to get a hold of) and digivox are very well supported. If you get a few months out of any box though its paid its way.
