Hi, I'm a bit of a muppet when it comes to all this, so hoping someone can provide a bit of help here. I've been trying to download the latest firmware onto my starview 2 but when I hit download on the gtrom, it doesn't move from 0%, and after about 20 seconds, it says that the download failed. I think it could be a problem with the lead I'm using (have usb to Rs232, but need to use extension to convert to female plug so as it cana be hooked up to the back of the machine). Does that sound right? Or is the problem likely to relate to something else? What would be the best cable to use for hooking the box upto my laptop, and where would I be best getting it? Anyway, if anyone's got any ideas, can you let me know??? Thanks

wait till the box goes to ON before you hit d/load m8 then it should work.

Cheers all. I'll try as you've suggested. I've got the driver for the usb lead and I take it that the converter is the null modem one as it came with the box. Using vista, which the usb lead is apparently compatible with. I already tried changing the COM port setting, but I'll try that again. And I'll try waiting til the box says on before hitting download, but I think I've read conflicting views on this (whether the box should be on, on standby, etc- basically when I switch the box on at the mains, it goes on to the channel it was last on, and if I turn it off to standby, the display shows the time?). I reckon I tried it with it on standby and just after switching it on, as well as after it had been switched on and was showing a channel no. I'll let you know if I'm still struggling. use the switch on the rear of your box m8 ,plug box into mains and switch it on but have the switch on the rear of your box off plug your cable into your pc/lappy and cable box,bring the loader up on your screen switch your box on at rear wait till it gets to ON on the screen on your box then press d/load button.good luck.

Thanks again for the help, but it still aint working. Using the 4.03 loader and 4.57 bin file thing, but no luck. Reckon it must be the lead. Don't know how to tell if it's a NULL modem lead or the serial one. It came with the starview box, so assumed it would be the right one? Does it matter what end is connected to the box and which is going into the usb lead? There's a small R beside the holes on one end and a small K at the other end (along with the numbers 1-9). The usb lead says USB232 converter on it, but in the control panel/Hardware it says usb - serial lead. Is it this that's the problem? If so, I need to get hold of another lead that works with vista. Any ideas on what the best one to get would be or how much it'd cost roughly? Cheers.Comment

Yeah I've changed the COM port settings and had no joy. I don't really understand what's going wrong, so I'm assuming there's a problem with the lead I've got.Comment
