Starview softcam for Sat on combo

Hi Everyone, I have a friend with a Starview HD (cable and satellite) combo box...I seem to recall reading that you could use a Technomate softcam/key file for the sat side of this box and I was hoping someone could confirm this before I attempt to do and possibly brick his box.
