Are you using just the null modem cable or do you have a USB adapter also?

Is the other box also a Starview 3?

Yes thats why I was checking if both boxes were the same. You can give the box to box transfer a go:

            On the good box select
            Menu
            User Set up
            SW Transfer

            First select Code Hit OK

            When completed select

            Channel Data Hit OK

Make sure the receiving box (slave) is pointed away from the remote though and in standby.

Thats from memory as I havent done that in a long while, so hope I am not missing something.

Could be a faulty serial connection, although check your Comm Port settings in device manager also. Was your mates box working and if so which firmware version does it have on it at the moment?

it had version 4 something.... i read about resetting factory settings so reset my own box first and then flashed with ver 8.04 no problems whatsoever... so then thought id try my mates to see if it would work but after i reset it i tried to flash but nothing happens except 'flash failed' .... really puzzled me now

"Version 4 something" are you sure your mates box is a Starview 3?

Had a funny feeling So you need the correct loader 4.03 and 4.57 in the sticky above. http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...-loader-18314/
