Box Super USB - Poor Quality Picture

    Afternoon everyone,
I recently purchased a Box Super USB. I'm having trouble getting a good picture on my 42 inch Samsung LCD. The picture is satisfactory but on many channels it is very poor (sport channels especially highlight the problem) and lacks clarity. For example whilst watching a football game it is almost impossible to determine which player is which. Essentially the picture lacks detail.

I notice when booting up the box itself that the Box Super screen image itself is not perfectly clear. The S of 'Super' is far from defined and the word 'USB' is also grainy. Dots of white on the black font and some dots of black on the white background. Could it be a box issue?

When turning the box on, channel BTVService20 is the default channel and this highlights the problem as the picture is dreadful, lacking definition anywhere.

The freeview I get directly through the TV is significantly better and the Virgin connection I previously had was also significantly better.

I have tested the cabling and indeed have invested in expensive gold cable and Scart leads but this has made no difference.

The latest firmware has also been successfully loaded.

I've run out of ideas now. Am I expecting too much from the box?

Much appreciated in advance for your help.

    Cheers

khenryashley any chance you could do me a favour. When you boot up the box can you take a close look at the boot up screen showing the Box Super USB logo and tell me if the S of Super and the word USB has any graininess discolouration or is poorly defined please. I think this will establish whether the box itself might be the cause as at that stage of the loading the cable signal itself has not been activated on the box.

      Much appreciated

Sal try taking the box round to a friends house and trying it on their cable feed just to be sure it's the box before you send it back m8.
Sometimes a slow gradual approach does more good than a large gesture.

The logo is fine when booting up.
I would try doing a factory reset on the box and reload the frimware 1.07.
Did you use a USB stick to load the firmware via the menu on the box.
            Cheers

i,m no expert ,but even if your scart leads are expensive, i am always wary of their connections. i would suggest fiddling with them and all your other cabls as well. hope this might help..ynwa

I've done a factory reset and reloaded the firmware via USB. No change unfortunately. Have also 'jiggled' around with the connections but thery all seem fine.

I bought the box from wizardsatellite.co.uk Any reason to be concerned? They seemed professional and the box arrived swiftly.

Just to be clear khenryashley, are you saying that your logo screen is perfect without any graininess etc?

                Cheers

                    Hi JoK,
yes done all that. I've attached a couple of pics which show the problem. Does anyone else see the same lack of definition (bear in mind that taking pictures of LCDs isn't great anyway but you can see the lack of detail I'm describing).

As mentioned before as the load up screen shows this problem it cannot be the cable feed and must be the box.

                    All help very gratefully received.

                    Cheers

It looks OK to me, but as you said pictures of TV screen are not the best unless you capture them via a card.

Press SL on your remote on any of what you say are bad channels and post back what it says.

Level is slightly on the low side have you tried a booster? But if you are looking for perfection well that's another story

Happy to give a booster a try. Can anyone recommend one?

In the menu what version of PAL do you have it set to?
Also have you tried an SVideo cable, I find that to be the best quality IMHO.
