Flash fail Box super

Hi,
I've read all the previous problems and mine is similar but no one seems to be able to help and im fairly pc savvy

Right problem is same as some have already had, update fails for the Starview 3 Box Super

Now i've the 9pin to USB, installed the serial port because at first the pc failed to recognise it
After installed I set up the port, attuned the frequencies from the guides etc, set the port in the firmware uploaded etc
Press downloads, 30 seconds and fails. Tried it with 2 different laptops and a pc, same problem all round

Ive tried 3 different versions of the firmware, the pc makes an the noise of detecting new hardware when the usb end is connected to the PC, so it knows its connected, just wont update

To summarize; everything installed, ports set properly, every kind of firmware version for the Box Super tried, all failed on 3 kinds of machines, all XP

Anyone got any ideas?

have u tried to force the flash by turnin the box off ,,,, then turn on at the back of the box and as u do press download,as the box is bootin up,,,sometimes works with bad flashes....another suggestion is try n find someone with a older comp where u can connect the null cable st8 to the comp and the box and do without the 9 pin to the usb,,..,.,hopes this helps .,.,.,bigfella

yeah im trying to find an older machine to try it with, problem is most people buy cheap Dells in Ireland which dont have that serial port =/

Nope, forced flash didnt work =/

One question, some guides say leave the option on the GT loader on that greys out the channel, yet on the Starview manual and the help section of the loader itself it says select the channel and find the 'SW' on the computer, and that allows you to search for the BIN file, but no one has ever shown the BIN file, everyone just recommends the flash file

Change your adapter mate ! ,they're notoriously poor , especially with laps .
I changed from an older desktop pc with seamless 232 output , 3 years ago , to a new "bargain bucket" dell pc (all usb), and had a "mare" for 2 wks updating the firmware on my machines (2 super's , 2 starviews and a box ).
Iv'e updated firmware on countless occasions and the adapter issue is the only real problem i've had .
Solved it with a ?4.99 kit off ebay , still using it now , it isn't the best / fastest , but if it ain't broke don't fix it !

Ok so i found an older machine in the office, plugged it in with the old school cable (well one I wired myself), attuned the bit rates and 30 seconds later my Box Super was updated!

The 9 pin to USB failed where the old 9 to 9 R323(?) succeeded with no mess whatsoever

I'm having the same problem. I 1st bought a USB to RS232 which hasnt worked (followed all correct instructions, including installing driver and changing the USB port to COM3)

I then thought I'd buy a RS232 (9 pin) to serial lead (25 pin) from Maplin. See link below:

Serial RS232 25 pin Male to 9 pin Female > Maplin

Have I made a mistake buying the 25 pin? I have what looks to be a 9 pin port on the back of my old school Dell PC. Still have the rceipt so could change it for the following:

Serial RS232 9 pin Male to Female > Maplin

Have the gender changer too which was used on the original USB method. Any help would be greatly appreciated as been trying to sort for weeks now with little joy.

P.s. Have a genuine Starview 2 (The box) and am flashing the bin file 'thebox_h20081222_457eE_api' (Version 4.57 taken from this site)

try n do wat redlobster did and try n find a older pc so u can cum st8 off 9 pin to 9 pin to box will save u a lot of hastle
