    Picture quality on Starview 4

Thought I would upgrade myself from the Starview 1 to the Starview 4.

The picture quality on th SV4 doen't seem as clear as the SV1.

The only otherthing I have noitice is On the signal strength on the SV4 is is 49% & 99% where on the SV1 it is 89% & 90%, could this be anything to do with it?? why the different strengths with the same connection?

I am using the s-video lead for my signal.

Anyone else noticed this or know why this is?

Not sure what the problem is with your signal.
I would check your cable connections.
Connecting your SV4 with a good quality gold scart should give you an excelent picture.

I thought a S-Video connection is supposted to be better than a scart, so I don't think that is the case.

I am using the same connections as with the starview 1 so the connections are fine.

The picture that the SV4 is sending just seems crap. It is pixelated and diagonal lines appear jagged rather than straight.

I have checked all the output settings are correct. Are there and 'specifications' available for the SV4 ?

I have look at other peoples SV4 and it seems the same. They just seem to accept the quality as they didn't have an older Starview to compare it with.

I have/had them all, so I can make some sort of comparison. A proper SCART gives you the raw RGB signal, so your picture quality should be fine in SD compared to s video. Some scart cables only give you composite image which will be worse than svideo. Just buy a decent cable and you won't have that problem.

Believe me when I say people do not just "accept" bad picture quality here.

I have the same problem. Got v1.07 on the box but there are what appear to be horizontal lines across the screen which as the OP said make the picture a bit rough. Its almost as though the ouput is a low resolution??? It is nothing to do with my scart leads or my setup or setting as these are all fine and also a gold scart lead will not make any difference compared to a normal fully wired scart lead, unless you want to believe that in which case good luck

Just to add to this, the picture quality within the menus is fine, its only with the actual program picture you get this. The lines are also visible within the mini screen on the EPG

                Someone who agrees!!!!

That is exactly what I am getting.

Why should be picture quality be worse when I am using the same leads as I used on my old Starview box. It therefore must be the box itself.

It doesn't help that I am viewing the picture on a 96" projector screen, the difference in quality can realy be seen.

I have gone back to using my original Starview for the time being.

I have still got by old sv1 so i have looked at the difference between the sv1 and my sv4. There is a great improvement in my SV4 picture.
All I can say there may be a fault on your boxes and I should have a word with your supplier.
                  Cheers

Figured it out, if you have the AV output on LETTER the picture is pixalated!

Figured it out, change the AV output to LETTER and the picture quality is great.

Arh i see you sussed it too

Yes just for anyone else who might have this problem, i have a 4:3 TV and when the box is in Letterbox mode you get these hortizontal type lines across the screen but if you leave the box on fullscreen then the picture is fine. This problem does not occur when a program isn't broadcast in widescreen. It's as though the box has problems squashing the picture down in letterbox mode. To quickly flick betwwen the two settings press the blue button on the remote while watching a channel.

Not an issue now i know what it is and maybe the next firmware update might solve this issue who knows but other than that, quite happy with the picture quality

Had same prob it is nothing to do with cables or the tv. my pic was fine to begin with then got that bad could not watch the fitta. I formated stick from box then reloaded fresh downloads from links then factory reset and loaded up again. the pic is as good as new.(hope it last's) think it must be a software prob. hopefully new firmware will sort out.
