Starview 4 box - Record and Pause function

    Hi guys,

I'm interested in purchasing a Starview 4 box and would like some information regarding the record and pause function.

Are you able to schedule program recordings in the future using the TV Planner like you can in Sky+, or does the record function only work for programs you are actually watching.

Also, can I watch another channel whilst I am recording another channel.

    Thanks

Its a single tuner PVR so you can only record what you are watching. Yes you can use the EPG to allow programming of recordings but the EPG can be hit and miss at times.
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer. - Douglas Adams

      Cheers mate.

Are you aware of any PVRs that will allow a channel to be recorded whilst watching a different channel?

The older dual tuner Starview PVR is the cheapest one on the market. But that was buggy at the best of times and has been discontinued so support has stopped.

You can go down the line of open sourced linux boxes, e.g. Dreambox 7025, IPBox and many more can take dual tuners. But they cost a lot more than the entry level PVR you are looking at.

Cool, I think I will go for the Starview 4 box, it looks like good value for money and their seems to be plenty of support for it on here. Plus I like the fact you can update the firmware using a USB memory stick.
