    Max232 Question

My box packed up yesterday, looking at repairing it, but does this Max232 repair it, and stop the fault from occuring? Or is it known to happen again after repair.

    Any reviews or expieriences appreciated.

Sorry, it is the 8882 fault as commonly reported on this forum, but my supplier says I need to jtag it with this Max232.

Will this stop this fault happening again, as if I have it replace the box, it is likely to happen again, if it is that common.

So the question is, is it better to repair or replace?

      Thanks for you reply

If your supplier will replace it then go for that option but the repair with the Max232 interface will also return it back to as good as normal.

          Still not quite right

          Hi,

The Max232 option returns it back to the stage it was at before the 8882 error started - it is still just as vulnerable to the problem happening again. I re-flashed mine yesterday, and it worked fine until I put the USB stick in the back (power had been off for 30 seconds+ and waited 30 seconds to power it back on) - straight back to the 8882 error and another re-flash.

          Cheers,

              Bigfella,

Thanks for the advice - have tried a 250Gb external USB HDD (external power), the 1Gb "Starview" stick that came with the box and an 8Gb Danelec (high spees) from 7dayshop - I can't even get The Box to stay up long enough to format any of them. As soon as I put any sort of USB device in the slot - bang 8882 error and reflash required.

I'm currently unable to pause or record, so any further help greatly appreciated.

              Thanks in advance.

Have you asked your supplier if they would replace it?

                  On asking about a replacement they reminded me;

"As you will be aware these items are Void of warranty if any Software changes are found.

We will however offer a Contact who may offer the jTag service for you."

Can they tell whether you have the added software? As they are not looking like providing a replacement! And it looks like this jTag is not always a successful option.

Also, once you have added the software via usb, can you take it out?

                  Thanks for all your help!
