rs232 problem

hi I'm having a problem I've got a laptop which has not got a rs232 port so I have bought a rs232 Serial Port Express Card Adapter but when I plug my cable in to the port and into the starview, and try to download using loader 4.03 nothing happens it just sits there saying downloading....OH and I can only use COM3 as the others come up with an error

i bought a rs232 to usb adaptor from fleabay and it worked ok

where did you buy your cable, maplins?

its not the cable as it was supplied with the starview box,and worked fine with a tower.
i don't know if the cable will work with the express card ???
